The Modern Prometheus | Research Notes
This piece was for the 'Postopia' exhibition, focusing on the theme of technology and how it has impacted humankind. The avenue I pursued was how it has greatly advanced us, particularly in the medical field, with the ability to create prosthetics to replace our natural body parts. This is a wonderful advancement for those who require, it, but are we as a species treading a dangerous path if we walk further? The theory behind my piece is:
"Where do we come from? Where are we going?"
Two questions that have plagued the thoughts of mankind since the dawn of time. With the quantum leaps in technology particularly over the last century, there are more possibilities than ever.
Will we leave Earth for good if it becomes uninhabitable? What will happen to the human race?
We as a species are continually evolving, with the ability to now infuse machinery and prosthetics into our bodies, a man made replacement for our skin and bones.
How will technology and science progress us?
Will we lose what makes us "human", or is our physical form irrelevant and simply a vessel for this moment in time?"
